The yarn dyes well.

Julie, I tried to see if cox gives me extra accounts with them, but for some reason, I don't know my password. I will look into it again when they let me. They're mean and won't let you try anymore if you don't know your password three times in a row. Guess I shouldn't have tried the same one all three times.

So, my silk/cotton yarn dyes really well. It actually dyed a lot darker than I though that it would. I took a picture for before/after purposes, but the dark brown really didn't want to photograph.

I also went to see Jonelle at SWTC, and it turns out that the original color of Fur Real they gave me is a new one that they don't sell yet. So they're sending me more whenever they get it, and then I'll be able to finish the sweater. It'll look really nice when I do.

I got so much cleaning done today. I excavated a corner of the living room that hadn't been touched since we moved here. It wasn't that messy really, just some papers and a book, but still it definately doesn't belong in the corner of the living room. I also dusted a ton, and washed all five ceiling fans. That seriously needed to be done, they were getting furry looking. I could ignore it because they're on most of the time, but I knew deep down inside that the fans were carrying dust around and around and around.

I comment on Your blog, Julie. :)

So, I unravelled a sweater yesterday and came out with almost a pound of light worsted weight cream colored lambswool and angora yarn. I'm going to sell it on eBay, but I'm not sure how much I should start the auction at. Probably I'll add up all my costs for listing and the sweater and hope I get at least one bid.

This morning I rode to walmart and got rit dye, rick rack, fabric as a gift for a friend, more size ten crochet cotton in white, and two shirts. I didn't try the shirts on, and I don't know whether I'm hoping they'll fit so I can keep them because I need summer shirts, or whether they won't fit so I can return them because I don't want to spend money on clothes. I guess I win either way.

When I got home I vaccumed the pool. I only have a week or so to get it swimable before Julie's visit.

I'm very proud of myself today. Because even though I rode to walmart, and I'm going to be riding my bike in to teach this afternoon, I still did my walking on the treadmill and I'm up to 25 minutes now. I'm working on being at at least half an hour before May 12 so I can tell the dr, yeah, I exercise for 30 minutes a day. And I've been remembering to stretch afterward too!

I'm thinking I might do a little yarn dyeing experimenting this afternoon. I have to go teach my tatting class at four thirty, but I should have a little time to dye before then.

Monday, Monday

I have to say, I actually enjoy Mondays. I know this is crazy, but I have my reasons. I don't have to work until Tuesday, but Ben is back at work Monday, so my routine is normal again and I can get all the weekend mess cleaned up. There's just something about putting my house back in order that makes me so happy.

I love the weekend too though. This weekend we didn't really do anything much. Ben worked on the weight machine alot. I would have helped, but he's got no patience at all for that kind of stuff and having to instruct me on what he wanted me to do was just too irritating. I know that should annoy me, but it's just one fault in an otherwise great husband, and I didn't have to help, so I actually came out ahead. We went to the movies yesterday and saw Fever Pitch. I liked it a lot. I was really in the mood for a funny love story, and that was really cute. Last week we saw Sin City. The two are very different movies, but I liked both of them a ton. Next weekend we'll see the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That is going to be really good.

I've been sewing on Adam's duffle bag. I should have finished this a long time ago, but at least it's going to end up finished soon. I don't know what to do about adjusting the strap though. All I could find in white hardware was an adjust that let an end hang free. I hate the look of that, but the only one I could find of the kind I want is black. I think black plastic hardware might look stupid on a white strap. Well, I should just pick something and go with it, so then I can just finish and get it sent out to him. I might go to Walmart today and see what I can find there. I also want to pick up some rick rack for another shirt for me, and some rit dye. I took apart a thrift store sweater yesterday that is 70/30 silk/cotton, and I want to see if it will dye well in the Rit, because it's a really not there bone color right now, and I'm hoping for a dark brown chocolate kind of color.

I have a ton more sweaters to take apart, and I might do one today, depending if it's too hot to work on the homespun throw. That's why I did the silk/cotton one yesterday. That yarn is going to be used for a summer time ponco/wrap thing to wear over tank tops, but the next one I'm going to do, I think I'll try to sell the yarn on eBay. I'll have to check and see what the recycled yarn is going for. But it seem like a high end yarn like angora would do pretty well even if it is recycled. I'm sure I'd earn back at least the three dollars the sweater cost.

I'll probably work on crocheting or undoing sweaters this afternoon, because it gets way too hot in my sewing room after noon to work, and it'll be too hot to ride to walmart too. Maybe I'll go shopping before I go to my tatting class tomorrow. I know the suspense is killing everyone, but you'll just have to wait till tomorrow to find out what I decided.

New Glasses!

So, I did go to the mall yesterday, but I didn't ride my bike there. Ben and I went there to get our eyes checked and get our new glasses. Mine will come in two weeks, and I will no longer have to wear glasses that make me look like a special girl. I will be wearing glasses that make me look hip. Ben got his yesterday after only an hour. And he got two pair, normal ones and sunglasses. Poopy head.

Holy crap! There's some sort of beetle thing that's like an inch and a half around banging it's self against the window trying to get in at me. It's got a black shiny shell, it's flying, and it's creeping me out. I think it wants to eat me.

I've been organizing and trying to put away all my yarn today because the weight machine is coming. These are connected because the weight machine is supposed to go in the room that has yarn all over the floor right now. I have a yarn problem. I also have way way too many balls of yarn that are just by themselves. As in, one ball of a kind and color that won't do anything on it's own because there's not enough to make anything with it. I know that some of this is because I buy it to swatch or whatever. But seriously, this is out of hand. I'll have to make a scrap afghan or something, but it's all differnt weights and stuff. Maybe I'll just give it all away and start over. No I won't, who am I kidding?

I went yesterday to get the yarn from SWTC to finish the test crochet, but it's not the same color, and I don't think that what I had to begin with is the same color as any of the one's that they sell. But I contacted Jonelle, and she's going to get back to me about what to do. So I went back to working on the Homespun throw for now.

Today I'm going to Craftmart to see if they have rick rack and then to target to pick up some pictures I ordered online. Which is the neatest thing ever. Ordering prints of digital pictures online and picking them up at the store. Then when I get home I'll either sew Adam's bag, so he doesn't disown me or work on crocheting that throw. That's what I'm planning and what I'm supposed to do. What I want to do is just sit and read all afternoon. I won't but it's in the back of my mind, that's for sure. But I didn't treadmill today, so running errands is going to be a good way to get my exercise too... I'm just going to have to take the long way around to make it last long enough.

Adventures to the Mall

So, I had a good day yesterday. I taught a make up session of my tatting class during the time reserved for my sewing class, because no one is signed up for the sewing class yet. Things to do include adding more sewing classes that are slightly more advanced for people who want to learn to use patterns, etc. After that I returned a video, and rode over to the Target and bought way more things than I should have, including multicolored card stock, fancy pens that I'm going to return, 6 dollars for four pens is just too much and I was influenced by the cool scrapbooking aisle and words on the packaging like: archival, The Special Edition DVD of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. Yes, I know, but I don't judge you. A romance novel set at a Renn Faire, and the Spaceballs DVD for Ben. Like I said, more than I should have. But it was a lot of fun. And I took myself out for lunch. It was the farthest I've ridden my bike (about four-five miles) in a day for months because for so long I was just going to Craftmart and back, which is two miles. (all together). Before I started working, I'd ride that far most days of the week. It was really nice and I liked getting out and doing so many errands.

I think, since I rode my bike farther(further?) than usual yesterday, I would like to ride to the mall today. I'm pretty sure I can make it with no problems and it would be good exercise to go there and back. I could skip walking on the treadmill. And I could see if I can actually get to the mall on my bike, which I've been wondering since we moved here.

I do know that this afternoon Ben and I are going to SWTC to get the yarn I ran out of so I can finish this test sweater for them. I don't know what kind of yarn I should pick for my free payment yarn. I wanted to do to the yarn section when I was at Craftmart yesterday and check, but I forgot to after my class. They carry all the SWTC yarns. Maybe I can drop in there today and decide. I'm thinking soy silk, and make a summer top.

And because I know how to post pictures now:

I took out this picture of me because I looked like a prisoner or something.

I made this top a couple of weeks ago. I made the pattern by tracing a tank top I already had from Lane Bryant, that, like all clothing I buy from Lane Bryant (so all my clothing) shrank in the length and showed my belly because I'm abnormally tall from the waist up. So I made it longer too. I like the way it turned out, so I think I'll make more too, though the next one will probably get rick rack, not lace.

YAY!

I figured out the picture thing! I was just putting the html code in the normal compose window. Duh, Beth, it's html, it should go in the html windo thingie. Anyway, the picture below is one Ben took while we were at the garden place in Vancouver. It's my favorite one. We might have it blown up and put it on the wall. So... now that I know how to do it, more pictures later. What? You want another now? Well, I don't know... Okay, if you insist:

This is my favorite one of the ones I took.

Tatting Time!

So, I finished the second front and about three quarters of a sleeve on the SWTC sweater yesterday. Good progress, I think. I ran out of Fur Real though, so I'm going to have to get some more before I can finish. I then swatched some different yarns to see if I have anything in my stash to use to make a vest out of my crocheted vests book. None that I checked worked, so I might just try to figure out my own pattern for a nice cami/vest/tank made with my lion brand cotton ease. As for the wool ease sport weight, that may not have been the best purchase. After wasting time looking for a new project that I shouldn't be starting anyway, I went back to work tatting an edging.
Today I dug out the pieces of Adam's duffle bag to get back to work on them. I've been recieving threatening phone calls, so I figure I better finish it. When your brother calls you Miss Beppycat, you know it's a strictly business phone call.
My tatting class is this afternoon. I'm sure it will go well, today we're reviewing rings and learning picots and joining. An easy class, but I don't want to go to fast. And I'll see if anyone signed up for my sewing class between Sunday and today. It's supposed to start tomorrow, but without any students signed up, I guess I've got a day off.
I wish my perm didn't make me look like weird al unless I use my curling iron every day. It does make my hair take curl with the curling iron way better though, I will say that for it.

I'm Back. And very happy to be home.

Well, Vancouver was fun. It was chilly, but not too cold and the sun was shining for part of the time so that was very nice. I went to their library, which was huge, but not really all that fun because it was arranged in a very nonstandard way. But I suppose that makes sense in a library that's primarily for research and is six stories high. I had a nice time, and all the people that Ben works with seem very nice. I do have a hard time dealing with groups though. So much time gets wasted standing around not actually doing what's supposed to be done. And that's just site seeing! Imagine how I'd be if it were actual work! We went to Victoria for the day in a little prop plane of death. That was a lot of fun. We went to see these gardens that were just beautiful. I'll have to put up some pictures as soon as I get them off the camera. We also went to the great needlework store where I got some books, one on tatting, one on crewel, and one on miniature embroidery. The miniature thing is weird. I love looking at books about doll houses and learning about them, but I've never had one and I haven't ever tried making anything that's miniature. I definately plan to one day though. We also went to this great yarn store, and I bought some really pretty ribbon yarn there (in the #2170 colorway). It was a nice, fun trip.

One of my strawberry plants dried up while we were gone and looks like it's trying to die. I thought it would be fine, it was only three days, but nooo, strawberry down. Anyway, I moved the container out of the afternoon sun and am keeping it moist. Hopefully, I don't kill it all the way. The tomato is doing so awesome though. I'm so proud of it, I almost took pictures of my little tomato nubbins. My lavendar is completely gone, I just can't figure out what it wanted, but I couldn't make it come back. I even ignored it, which is what a lot of the advice about lavendar says to do, and it just wouldn't live. The chamomille has snapped back nicely from it's little dried out tantrum, and the mints and lemon balm and catnip are all flourishing. The peppers are definately in bad shape... they've been trouble since we planted them, but now I know what the problem was. Their pot is not draining well at all. Right now they're waterlogged, and I'm just hoping that they'll dry out before they die, but it doesn't look good. I guess if they die, I'll just empty the pot and make some more holes in it so the next thing that we plant in it doesn't have the same problem.

If there's anyone who reads my blog who might be able to tell me how to get my pictures to show up in my posts, I'd appreciate the advice. I'm doing what blogger says to do, but I just doesn't work. All I get is the red x thing and my link in text. What am I doing wrong?

Today will be devoted to watching all my taped episodes of Starting Over while I crochet my little heart out on the SWTC sweater I'm testing. I've definately got to work on that some more. It's not hard at all, I just haven't been putting any time into it. Hopefully, I'll have pictures tomorrow or wed to show off.

Going to Vancouver

Well, we're leaving for Vancouver for a couple of days today. I hope we'll have a fun time, but I don't think that Ben's boss (the person who planned this trip) is the greatest thinker there is. I mean, really, who wants to leave Arizona for Vancouver in April. Um... sunny and 85 or rainy and 45? super hard choice.
Anyway, things I'm taking with me to craft on:
The SWTC sweater, but just the yarn and the pattern. If I finish the sleeves, I will save them to sew together at home and then work on...
The white tatted edging I'm working on that I want to make really long that's a secret. But I'm just taking one ball of thread, and it's almost gone. If I run out, I will move on to...
The gold colored edging for the pillowcases for wayne and jolee's wedding present because i suck at finishing things in time for stuff.
That should be enough, it's only a little while.
I'll be sure to post all about the crazy cold time I'm sure to have.

Getting Healthy

Ever since we've come back from MI, I've been having headaches in the afternoon. At first I thought it was because I was sick with all the gunk in my head, but that's started to clear up some, and it's still happening. I was so frustrated yesterday, because instead of just lying around, doing nothing because I was tired and had a headache, I did all the things I was supposed to do. I exercised, got outside and worked in the yard, stayed moving. And none of that helped. But then it occured to me this morning that my headaches in the afternoon probably have everything to do with my lunch. I mean, yesterday for lunch I had pretzels, a piece of cheese, and some cheerios. Definately not good for me or good enough to keep me moving in the afternoon. So, I'm going to plan my lunches better and make sure they're much healthier. It's obviously my most important meal and so I should try harder not to turn automatically to stuff out of a bag.

On the crochet front, I did finish the back of the SWTC sweater and am half done with one front. I plan to finish the front today, and maybe take a break on that to finish some tatting and get some samples together, I'm going to demo at a home show this weekend, and want some samples to have out in front of me.

Why do the cats think they have to be on me to sleep?

We had such a good weekend! I planted lots of stuff in pots all over the patio, and I'm optimistic about keeping them alive. We made strawberry jam and canned it, and it turned out so yummy. And only one of the batches had a little burned sugar in it. It was a nice day, hanging out with Ben and doing all that stuff on Sunday. We're even considering redoing the kitchen, painting the cabinets and stuff.

I've been working on the sweater for SWTC. I'm such a tight crocheter, I had to go up three sizes on my hook to hit the gauge, but after I got that figured out, things went smoothly. I'm hoping to have the back and at least one front side done today. As I sit and crochet it, I'm constantly thinking about what I'll make with the yarn they're going to give me for testing it. I love planning projects so much! As much as, if not more than, I like actually making things, lol.

I had the first session of my second set of tatting classes yesterday. It went really well. Both students are catching on really well. And quickly too. Maybe I'm getting to be a better teacher too. I do know that I still have to work on my chattering, I have a bad habit of letting my mouth go while I'm thinking about other things completely. Not good multi-tasking.

What I actually accomplished

Well, I managed to: do laundry, reorganize the closet, wash half the dishes, unpack the suitcases that had clothing, leaving the one with yarn and puzzles and movies and other stuff that wouldn't fit into the normal suitcases, get completely distracted sorting through my yarn looking for my set of big hooks, and sit on the couch and crochet three skeins of homespun into a throw, with at least three more to go. That was yesterday.

Today I picked up my last pay check, went to the bank, ate lunch with Ben, went to the Dr, and picked up the yarn for the test crocheting for SWTC. The Dr said take mucus thinner, use flonase, come back if I have a fever or anything turns green. The stuff from SWTC is so cool. I'm just loving their zippers. The pattern is a really cute little zipped cropped cardigan. Bendy (Carter, I think, I don't have it in front of me). Anyway, she's in lots of the crochet groups I'm in, and she's so nice and helpful and I love her designs, so I really can't wait to start on this. First I have to get the big hank of Fur Real wound into a ball. I can't use it right out of the loop like it is. Maybe I'll have to get a swift. Ben might buy me one after I make him hold the thing for me while I wind, hehe.
