TGIF

Not that means anything really. Just that I get to hang out with Ben more because it's the weekend. We are going to this Redbull thing called Flutag, where people run stuff off a pier ostensibly to see if they can make it fly, but really just to get to run stuff off a pier and land in the water.

Yesterday I adjusted the pattern again so it's long enough, and cut it all out of the sheet. So I'm set to start sewing together practice dress v.2. I'm not sure if I'll do that today or not.

I'm actually in the mood to just sit around for the rest of the day. I got a ton done this morning, and just so I can re-live my sense of accomplishment, I think I'll list what I've done so far. I did two loads of laundry, folded and put away, including the sheets, and remade the bed. I vaccumed the entire house, even under the bed, and swept and mopped the tile floors, even under the cat dishes. I washed a ton of dishes, dried them and put them away, and washed down all the counters in the kitchen, including the stove top. I even used a knife and scraped up the stuff in the little crack under the stove top along the counter. And I washed my hair. Yes, all that before 10:30. I must admit to being a little proud.

Last night I made cupcakes, and this morning Ben took most of them to work. It's a sort of agreement we have, that I get to bake whatever I want every week, and then he'll dispose of it by taking it to work where everyone is very impressed, and then we don't end up eating way more junk than we should. It works well. I just love to bake stuff, so this is a better plan than not baking so we don't eat it.

Next week is our anniversary. May 11th. Yep, I know that's your birthday too, Ali. And Andy's too. So I probably won't ever forget the date of your birthday again, now that I've realized I got married on your birthday. I have no idea what I should get for Ben for our anniversary. The traditional gift is fruit and flowers and the modern gift is appliances for the fourth anniversary. Maybe I could get him a membership in a fruit of the month club, and a juicer to go with it. Okay, not really, we don't need a juicer. So probably no appliances. And most likely, no fruit either. That's lame.

Abnormally Long Torso Girl!

So, I got the mock up v.1 of my bridesmaid's dress sewn together. And it's pretty much four inches too short. I have such a freakishly long torso, it's not even funny. Anyway, I guess I'll adjust the pattern and cut it out again and see if I can get the length right before I bother with the rest. I'm pretty sure I adjusted it well enough in the circumference, so the next mock up should probably fit just right. I also solved the mystery of which sleeve notch to make the sleeve as long as with the help of mrs. waibel. Other than those things, everything around here is just pretty much usual. It's nice how usual things have been actually.

And congratulations to Adam on his degree!

Carnie Folk: you just gotta love em

I went to Target today and then ate lunch at Long John Silver's. It was really nice, and it was the first time I ate out even though I've been home alone all week. Yay me.

So, they put up a carnival in the parking lot I usually ride through to get to Target. I have no idea how carivals do that, but they just seem to spring up like mushrooms sometimes. The rides always look so scary and rickety. Like, Tilt-A-Whirl: You Didn't Really Need that Hot Dog You Had For Lunch Anyway and Ring of Fire: Because We All Have to Die Sometime. You know, they have taglines like that.

Target has a ton of really cute things in the dollar section right now. I resisted the grow kits, because I can never get them to actually grow anything anyway, but I did get some totally cute copper garden tags that you emboss with this sharp stick thing to make the signs. Though I am a bit concerned that they warn you to wash your hands after handling them. And I got somethings that I just couldn't resist for both me and Julie. But that's a surprise. And I picked up some little photo albums that hold wallets, so I can put together a little easy to carry picture album for my mom of their trip. And they had rose and lavendar bath tea that I got. I went a little crazy in the dollar section.

So that's pretty much my day. Just a nice day of shopping and such. I did watch the Lost from last week that I had on the dvr that I was saving. It was pretty good. I wish they wouldn't skip weeks. I also have on the dvr a movie from the lifetime channel with Melissa Joan Hart in it where she and Jonathan Brandis are like, out at sea or something. Anyway, is it wrong that I still think Jonathan Brandis is totally hot? Anyway, I've got lots of little wallet sized pictures to cut out that I'm putting in mom's album, so I'm going to watch movies and work on that this evening. Too sexy? Oh yeah.

Yo ho ho, A Pirate's Life for Me!

So, I'm going to run off and be a pirate queen. And I'll bring home lots of booty and loot. I will Buckle the Swash, and um... Shiver Your Timbers. If you know what I mean.

I'm in a kind of weird day today. I went to the store today, and I saw some cats trying to cross the busy busy street. They actually looked like they were pretty good at it, but I just hate it when I see that kind of thing. It makes me worry. I was feeling depressed when I got home, so I was going to eat cookies and sit on the couch and do nothing, but i knew that wouldn't help me feel any better at all, so instead, I had crispix for breakfast and decided to put up the window screens so Ben won't have to, and I can have all the windows open at night, instead of just the living room one. Anyway, drilling into metal window frames is harder than I thought it would be. But I'm feeling better now that I'm accomplishing something.

I finally saw an episode of Gilmore Girls where Loreli is actually sewing. She was sewing beads onto her mom's wedding dress in the episode with Emily and Richard's vow renewal.

I am so going swimming after I finish putting up these screens. It's hot today, at least ninety. I haven't checked the thermometer, that's just a guess. Weather.com is claiming 77, but I know better. I'm the one screwing on window screens in the hot sun. Weather.com isn't going to come over here and do that, now are they?

Picture post: Apache Trail

I just figured out today that I don't have to use my own internet space. Blogger hosts pictures for you. So here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks that I haven't posted yet. The first one is a dam picture. I wanted a dam souvenir but there was no dam gift shop.

Celebratory Turkey

Okay, that was just a funny phrase. But I did make a little celebration meal on Tuesday. Turkey Pot Pie. It's one of Ben's favorite meals, and everyone else really seemed to enjoy it. And German Chocolate Cake. From scratch. Which may be one of the most pointless things ever, because it's about the hardest cake that I've ever put together, and I think that a normal chocolate cake with that yummy frosting on it would be just as good. But anyway, I wanted to make Ben something nice, and he really liked it. And it was really yummy.

I've got the world's worst sore throat. I don't know why really, but I think that it's connected to the terrible earache. I'm no House, but I think I might have a sinus/throat/ear type infection. Anyway, it's a soup and orange juice and sit and knit kind of day. After I finish paying the bills that is.

I started a sock for Ben last week. It's going to be a toasty warm sock, in alpaca yarn. I'm almost down to the toe, so I expect I should finish it today. And then I'll start the next one, though, I'm concerned I won't have enough yarn to finish it. He wanted me to make him socks, but then he saw how much yarn costs and balked, so I just looked around at my leftovers and found this.

The flowers that ma and I planted, well, mostly Ma, are doing really well. I had to swear to water them, so I did that last night, and they all look like they're going to stay alive. At least as of now they do. And the lantana has a ton of new flowers on it. It's amazing what just putting a plant in the ground can do for it. Oops, is my black thumb showing?

I vow to start cutting and fitting the practice version of my bridemaid's dress on Monday.

Ben's confirmation and first communion are this weekend, at Easter Vigil Mass. We still have another month of the classes, but I think he's pretty glad to be in the home stretch with it. I gave him his present at our little dinner we had on Tuesday. I got him a cuxifix with the ressurected Jesus on it. I like those kind way better than the bleedy ones. Anyway, it's fingers were broken off, and I didn't notice it, so I'll have to take it back and get a whole one. We didn't even see his fingers anywhere in the box, so I guess it happened before I bought it. I do have another special surprise, but I'm going to wait till after I give it to him just in case he by some fluke actually reads my blog. He mostly never ever reads it. Mostly.

Sedona and the Sun Side of the Car

So we had a nice drive to Sedona yesterday and went to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. And had a picnic at the National Park around Cathedral rock. And saw all the other big red rocks with weird names. And took lots of pictures. And turned around and came home because we had to be back in time for OCIA class. And we made it with just enough time to eat and then go to class. And I was on the sun side of the car the whole day, so my right shoulder is baked. I didn't remember to put on sun block till the ride home. Anyway, it should heal fairly quickly, sunburn usually does.

Today is the last day of my parents' visit. I don't really know what they want to do today. Ben has the car at work, no one wanted to get up and take him in so we could keep it. So I'm thinking it's going to be a relaxing hang around the house day. Ma and I will probably go to the store, because I want to make Ben a cake today, so we can have a little Confirmation celebration while they are here. I just have to figure out something celebratory to do with leftover turkey.

Anyway, I better go, there's lots of dishes to put away. My mom washed them all while we were at class yesterday. She keeps cleaning. I just don't think that's right, but I can't make her stop.

pictures

yeah, I'm such a tease.

I just resized a bunch of pictures, but I can post them yet, because my ftp thinger has expired. I'll have to get a new one sometime later when I have time.

We're going to Sedona today, and I'm supposed to be printing directions. Ben's making bacon, and soon we'll all be on our way. I better go fry the eggs.

Lakes, oh so very lakes

So there are lakes in Arizona. It's just that in order to get to them, you have to drive on terrifying curvy dirt roads in the mountains. Okay, I'm exaggerating. Yesterday Ma and Dad and I drove the Apache Trail. (I'd link it, but I'm lazy, just google.) It was a really long drive, but so so so pretty. And it was pretty fun driving along those steep roads too. The views were just amazing. I'd post some pictures, but they're all on the card thing in the camera all the way in the kitchen. Later, I promise.

On Thursday, we just hung around the house. Dad and I went for a bike ride and brought home water and went to the Goodwill for dollar day. I found some really cute lady bug embroidered valances for the kitchen. And then they took naps and I knitted. I finished both my socks now. I've started a pair of thick extra warm ones for Ben. Andean Treasure from KnitPicks.

Today, Ma and I went to Home Depot for plants. I got a Booger-Valia (yeah, I know, but you spell it... and that was funnier), and three rose bushes, and two white geraniums, and two yellow poppies. So, then we planted those and dad went for a bike ride. He says he's falling behind because he has played any golf on the putting green yet. Anyway, we got in the pool for a little bit, then ate lunch and went to the library, the chandler history museum, big lots, staples, and church, but not into church because they decided they'd rather go to mass in the morning. So we ate dinner at Long John Silvers. Because I'm so attached to my high cholesterol. And now they're at the Bingo, and I'm having a quiet evening home, doing laundry and shaving my legs. It's actually nice and relaxing.

Ben flew out to Chicago for his Grandpa's funeral this morning, and he'll be back tomorrow night. So he's not around tonight, but I talked to him, and his trip was fine, and everyone there seems to be doing alright.

Okay, pictures later, if I don't fall asleep.

Today's Adventure

We rode the bus to Mesa, went to the yarn store and the antique place, got cookies at a neat bakery, had lunch at Burger King and came home. Eh... nap time.

So begins my week...

Yesterday I discovered that one of the cats had peed through all the blankets on the guest bed. I had already washed and remade the thing all nice for my parents, so I had to strip it and do it all over again. I'm concerned about the cats, this kind of behavior could mean a lot of different problems. It's also troubling to me that I don't know which cat it was.

I was feeling a little under the weather yesterday, so I stayed home from the OCIA class last night and ended up going to sleep at eight. But I feel great this morning, so it was totally worth it.

My parents come in at 8 this morning. I hope they did okay flying. My mom's never flown before, and it's been years and years since my dad has, I think. I'm not sure what the plan is for the week, because they are definately not make a plan and stick with it kind of people, so we'll just hang out and have a nice time and see how it goes from there.

My sock is coming along. If my foot weren't so long, it would be finished. When I do finish it, I'm going to start a pair of dark gray alpaca ones for Ben. For this winter as warm cozy socks. Not for wearing with shoes or anything.

I have to get the muslin for my dress for Julie's wedding cut. Yeah, I don't know when I will actually get to do it, but I know I have to do it.

We had a good time at the zoo on Sunday morning. We rented a paddle boat thing. Dude, pedalling a boat is way harder than pedalling a bike. And pedalling a boat is way harder than paddling a boat. So why do they make those? Anyway, I took lots a really nice pictures with my cool new camera. Really good ones that I can print out all nice and frame. It was a lot of fun.

Maybe more later this week, for now, I have a few last minute things to finish before we go pick up Ma and Dad.
