Health

If you're a regular reader of my blog you may have noticed that I haven't been posting regularly and that I write about being tired a lot. I haven't posted regularly because I seem to want to complain about being tired when I do, and I don't like my blog to be drag down-y tired talk. But I've been tired enough and for long enough that I thought it was time to talk to the doctor about it. I've had other symptoms recently too, like a sore throat, and most alarmingly, very tender and swollen glands that felt that way consistently for a week or two at a time.

So, to the doctor I went, assuming the worst. Which to me would be some kind of neck cancer. Thankfully, it's not that bad. They did blood work, and it came back indicating that I have the marker that mono leaves that is called Epstein-Barr Virus. When you get EBV you generally get mono, but it stays with you, and it can reactivate and make you feel the symptoms again. Some doctors believe that these recurrences can lead to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This is not nessecarily true, as most people (70-80% in America) are infected with EBV.

My point? I've had mono, I guess, and it's been dragging me down for months now. I have an appointment with the dr. on Friday morning to discuss this and make sure I have my facts straight and figure out how I should deal with it so I can feel better.

Other news around here. We've been finishing up meetings here and there for the convalidation. Friday will be a full day, with the dr appt, getting the taxes done, meeting the wedding coordinator, and meeting with Fr. Rick. I worked yesterday and had a good day, even though I fell asleep on the couch at seven thirty and went to bed at eight, I'm feeling pretty well this morning. I work tomorrow, and with Friday being full, today feels like my only day off. So I'm going to take full advantage. I think I'll ride over to St. Mary's for mass, and then I'm going to work on sewing my dress from my new green fabric, embroidering the pillowcase I bought from the nice Amish lady, and listening to a mp3 book I started during my trip*. Hopefully, later I'll have pictures to post. And I know Julie expects lots of pictures on me in lots of dresses. I don't know if I'll post them all, I might stick with just the flattering ones.

*That's something I meant to mention that I'm pretty excited about. The library now offers mp3 and eBook check out online. So I can just download what I'd like to hear. Which is awesome, because I listen to books on cd or tape a lot when I'm sewing or on the plane. I bought an inexpensive mp3 player to carry with me on the trip, and it holds about a book and a half. Which is pretty awesome considering that usually I have to take my backpack on the plane just for the cd's and discman. This fit right into the side pocket of my purse. I really like technology.

My Visit is Coming to the End

Well, I'm at Angie's tonight, and tomorrow morning I fly home. The dress shopping yesterday and today was not a complete success, but it was a lot of fun. I do think it was pretty hard for everyone to stay interested in me in dress after dress. But I appreciate that they tried anyway.

I did buy a brown dress that looks super great on me and will be good for me to wear. But I don't think brown is really a good color for a bride to wear. Even a convalidation bride.

I also really liked this dress from David's Bridal, and it did look pretty good on me, so if I can find it in stock in a good color, I might still buy that one. It's great looking for the occasion and pretty and spring-y.

I have bought some fabric to make a practice version of this (3877) dress. I'm thinking that view B in with the collar left off in a pretty organza over a crepe, maybe in light blue or cream. I'm actually pretty excited about the practice dress. It's a cool green with retro like daisies. I'm hoping to have that finished by the end of the week so can see if sewing a dress for the wedding is feasible.

So, I'm a little tired and sort of frustrated from the shopping and all the trying on of at least forty dresses, but I've got a pretty good idea of what I should wear and a good back up plan with the brown dress.

Other than the convalidation dress shopping, my visit home was very nice. I hung out with my dad, went to the Amish stores with my mom, saw all the kids, and ate lunch with Adam.

Max just won You're the One That I Want. That's pretty good. I really like him.

I totally love Angie's lap top. I think I might have to save up and get one. I wonder how much one would cost that would do the things I'd want.

Well, I'm flying home tomorrow and Ben and I have meetings and things to take care of already tomorrow afternoon so I'll post more about my trip and other stuff tomorrow.

Post Continued: On the Knitting Front

I have been doing some knitting. I brought the second sock of Wayne's pair with me to the game yesterday and got most of the heel flap finished. I'm hoping to finish the sock through the week. Mostly on the plane. Yes, Socks on a Plane.

The little gray ones are for Brady so he can have warm wool going to bed socks that aren't pink. They're made with the leftovers of Ben's Christmas socks. The blue and green sock is the first of Wayne's socks. I won't get a picture of them together, since I'm hoping to give them to him while I'm in MI.

I also started on a pink lace scarf in alpaca lace-weight yarn that I got the other day at Fiber Factory. I've been wanting to expand my knitting know-how and figured lace would be a fun new thing. It is fun to do, but I'm not liking how the finished product is looking so I might have to find a new pattern. Or maybe use a bigger needle size. I'm not sure what part of it I don't like at the moment.

I'm flying home with Adam on Wed. to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and sisters and Ben's mom and maybe Missy. Adam and I will not speak.

Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet

Today we went to the Spring Training game for the Padres and the White Sox. It was fun to be at a ball game and the spring training atmosphere is cool. But it was stupid hot, and even though I sun blocked, I think my back and shoulders may have been burned through my shirt. I think Adam had fun, so that was pretty much the point.

This was meaningful to me this week.

Other things we did this week... We went to the Phoenix Art Museum. That was fun. But Adam and I have very different opinions on art. He likes modern art and I like pictures of people doing things. And I'm completely in love with the Thorne Minature Rooms. We did agree that "You, who are about to be engulfed by a million fireflies" completely rocks. It was called something like that anyway. It was this cool installation of lots of led lights in a black mirrored room. Trippy.

Yesterday we went to Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum. That was fun. I've been into the mineral/gem thing lately because we've been watching this neat show on the Travel Channel where the host digs for gems and such. I actually ordered some sapphire gravel to do some "at home mining". We found some pretty sapphires and garnets, but mostly just had a lot of fun looking. We might look into gettting some of them faceted sometime. Maybe the folks at the AMMM can help us out.

We got pizza for dinner tonight. Yummy! And it's here now, so I should get going. But hopefully more tomorrow.

So very tired...

Well, it's been a good week. But on Saturday we had to go to this retreat thing for the marriage prep, and it was sooooo long. And then, on Sunday I cleaned up the yard, so I'm still achey from that. But the yard is actually kind of enjoyable now. Adam got here yesterday (Yay!), and we decided to go get his bike from the shop. Which entailed walking two miles, then riding back. The riding wasn't hard, but the walking wore me out. But we had a fun time. His blog has videos. Not of that, but of him arriving and such.

Today, we're either taking the bus to down town Mesa, or just hanging closer to home and maybe eating lunch at Pita Jungle and going to Sprouts. I have to ask what he'd prefer when he gets up. And then, tomorrow, we're going to the art museum. To look at the art.

So, things are cool. We did fall off the diet over the weekend with being so busy, but I'm back on today, so I won't gain anything, probably. I've noticed that I almost prefer the diet at this point. As long as the prep work is done and the food is here, because I don't have to think about what I'm going to eat. Which makes it so much easier to eat something healthy.

Hi, I'm Beth, and I'm addicted to yarn.

We had a really great week. Ben's birthday was Wed. and I made him a cake. It was super good. But it was also the beginning of the end for our diet. But no biggie, as now we are having a new beginning of the diet today. Anyway, birthday. He had a nice birthday. We went bowling and both did really well, and he played Tricky forever that afternoon. But his best present was getting a Wii yesterday morning at Target. He's having crazy fun with that thing. It actually is really fun too. I like the bowling game the best, but believe it or not, I'm not so bad at golf.

Yesterday was Tempe Yarn and Fiber's birthday, so I stopped by there for their event. And bought yarn I didn't so much need. But it's all so cool, I couldn't help it. I got a skein of Bamboo from SWTC just because it reminded me of neopolitan ice cream and I love those colors. It's WAY silkier than the Bamboo I've seen and had in the past. I think they're getting better at making it. I got a skein of heathered pink wool to make a hat because it looked like it could match the yarn I got Super Bowl Sunday that's for mittens. It's pretty close. And I got a skein of laceweight Camel yarn. I could not resist it. I mostly just wanted to own handspun camel yarn made my Mongolian nomadic ladies. But maybe someday it will be a scarf. Having my own income has made my yarn habit much worse.

Things are cool here. I'm working today, so I've got that to do. And the house is a disaster from the weekend and the flurry of buying the Wii and stuff for it. But we did take down the Christmas stuff. I know, you don't have to tell me. It only took like, 30 or 40 minutes with the two of us doing it. But we seriously have TOO many ornaments and stuff. We're going to have to break down and buy another storage box. I'm not so into that. So, I've got lots of cleaning to do and then I have to be at work, so I'd better get going and stop letting the computer suck my time.
